Yoo Gun-hyung (born February 14, 1979) is a South Korean recording artist, songwriter, and producer best known as the co-writer and co-producer of the 2012 worldwide hit song "Gangnam Style" performed by co-writer PSY.
==Biography==
Yoo Gun-Hyung was introduced to the world of K-pop in 1996 as one-half (along with Suh Jung-Hwan) of the Korean hip hop duo ''Untitle.''〔(miketastic, "Way Back Wednesday: Spring Fling", www.allkpop, March 21, 2012. ) Note that although English-language sources sometimes mistakenly call the group "Untitled", the group's music videos feature the spelling "Untitle" and that is the spelling used by major English-language sources on South Korean popular culture, including soompi.com and allkpop.com.〕 Yoo and Suh were both still in high school, and gained particular recognition in the Korean music industry because they were already writing their own songs.〔(miketastic, "Way Back Wednesday: Spring Fling", www.allkpop, March 21, 2012. ); (thunderstix, "Two Old School Idol Groups Come Together for New Album", soompi.com, May 4, 2011. )〕 Their second album, entitled ''The Blue Color'' was released in 1997.〔(miketastic, "Way Back Wednesday: Spring Fling", www.allkpop, March 21, 2012. )〕 Untitle disbanded in 1999.〔(miketastic, "Way Back Wednesday: Spring Fling", www.allkpop, March 21, 2012. )〕
Yoo's collaboration with PSY goes back at least to 2006, with Yoo writing music and PSY writing lyrics for songs on the 2006 album ''PSY – We Are The One''.〔(edward1849, "Top 20 – May week 4", May 30, 2006. )〕
Yoo and PSY have also co-written songs for IVY,〔(edward1849, "New albums and singles preview – 2009 October week 5", Nov. 1, 2009 )〕 Kim Jin Pyo,〔(edward1849, "Weekly K-pop Music Chart 2010 – February Week 2", Feb. 14, 2010. )〕 and Ulala Session.〔(Stewart Ho, "Ulala Session Shakes Things Up With Park Han Byul in Music Video, Makes an All-Kill on Charts", CJ E&M enewsWorld, May 10, 2012. )〕
It has also been reported that Yoo and former Untitle co-member Suh have been working with Jang Woo Hyuk (formerly of H.O.T.) on a solo project.〔(thunderstix, "Two Old School Idol Groups Come Together for New Album", scoompi.com, May 4, 2011. )〕
"Gangnam Style", the lead single of ''PSY 6 (Six Rules), Part 1'', which Yoo co-wrote with PSY, was released on July 15, 2012, and the music video was uploaded to YouTube the same day.〔(Kevin Alloca, "'Gangnam Style' is Your International Hit of the Month", YouTube Trends, Aug. 7, 2012. )〕 Within weeks, the video had made it to #3 on YouTube's music video list.〔(Kevin Alloca, "'Gangnam Style' is Your International Hit of the Month", YouTube Trends, Aug. 7, 2012. )〕 Then in August, the video went viral outside of the Korean-speaking world, and by September had become the most "liked" video in the history of YouTube.〔("'Gangnam Style' holds Guinness world record for most 'liked' video in YouTube history", guinnessworldrecords.com, Sept. 20, 2012 )〕
